Kept you waiting, huh? Top Six Scariest Moments In Gaming
Kept you waiting, huh? Top Six Scariest Moments In Gaming
I would like to start this list with a clarification, this list is MY list there are indeed many like it but this is my own. What I'm saying is that these are my own personal subjective opinions, also one moment per game otherwise this list would be rather cheap; would it not? But alas let us get on with the spooktober.
Bioshock is a spooky game, yes there are other moments that are spooky like when you first meet a splicer in the bathysphere or Steinman, however there is a certain moment that sticks out to me and that is the moment where you walk into a nice dental surgery and see a lovely tonic and you think 'wow what a nice lovely game' Then the game pulls a blanket of thick, evil ice over your eyes but relief; it's gone, you're safe...Well until you turn around and find a not so lovely splicer right up your ass crack making direct eye contact as he tries to give you a reach around. I hesitate to even call it a jump scare because he literally just stands right there not saying anything not doing anything until you do, which just makes it so much creepier.

4- Dunwich
Now I wouldn’t exactly say Fallout 3 is an incredibly spooky unless you wanna look at in a more 'how far will humans go to destroy each other and the world hey live on' philosophical kind of way. We, however, are here looking at a more traditional kind of spooky. If you have played Fallout 3 then you most likely already know which bit I'm talking about. Dunwich is a building in the vast, empty wasteland, the observant of you will realize "Dunwich" is actually a HP Lovecraft reference so you know it's gonna be spooky. I don't want to spoil if you don't know what happens, you should do it yourself cause it's cool and spooky. What I will say is don't wear the ghoul mask.

3- Are you following me?
Is Undertale spooky? No? Maybe. I mean depending how you play it will show you that you're a horrible person, however it's not spooky I don't think. The bit that spooked me is very near the beginning (it is the beginning if I'm honest but it took me a while because I didn't want to leave goat mom's house). The moment I am talking about is when you're walking along a long path in dark woody area and something is following you. Oh wait, It's just Sans. This bit just made me feel on edge the entire time and then the game just introduced a nice guy (sometimes). Anyway, Play Undertale! Don't Google it.

2- I just want to go home
This is the moment I can plug: HEY you should totally check out my Youtube where my past streams go and my twitch where I'll start streaming soon (I'll put links at the bottom so you can keep reading bby). The reason I plugged myself here is cause I actually played this game on stream AS WELL AS also I reviewed it here so check that out. The reason it's on this list is because I found this game creepy because of the over all sense of mystery because you're in this massive empty house in the middle of the night and neither you or the character has ever seen the place before. However; the reason it's on this list is not because of any of these reasons, it was a glitch (well I think it was just the ps4 not wanting to render that far) basically when you walk to a certain point the lighting at another door changes and I noticed this and it scared the bollocks off me, then I just realized it was a glitch.

1- GHOSTS JUST GHOSTS
One thing you should know about me is: I love ghosts (Not the COD game, in all honesty that was pretty toss) I also really like post-apocalyptic settings in things, not just games, so obviously the metro games are right up my back alley. The Metro games are about lovely people who live in a lovely version of Russia where nuclear fallout has forced everyone to live in the metros, thus the games being called Metro. So, for this moment I am simply going to cheat because there are so many moments in these two games (Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light) for example in Metro 2033 there is a point in the story when you are with another character and you have to avoid shadows, at one point there is even a shadow train. In Metro Last Light there is a point where you go in crashed airplane and you start seeing the last moments of those who died inside. You may say that I am in fact I'm breaking my own rules but no it's my list I can be hypocritical if I damn well please.

WINNER- Fisson Mailed
Kept you waiting huh? If you know the Metal Gear Solid series then you know it's written by a mad man, Hideo Kojima, with every game he tries something new and the majority of time his ideas work and it's thanks to his amazingly awful writing that we have some of the best moments in gaming. The moment that springs to everyone's mind is Psycho Mantis and his blackout and when he puts his weird bald head through the fourth wall and starts reading your memory card, for a PS1 game this was pretty cool especially since no one had really done it before however this isn't on the list because I had heard too much about it before I even played it so it didn't really spook me. There are other moments; such as the hospital sequence in MGSV although that just shows the fact that the game blew its load way too soon. The one moment that spooked me the most though was in MGS 2 and it also a point where the fourth wall, that Kojima is not very fond of, is shattered. When going through a certain point the shit really hits the fan and Colonel Campbell gives Raiden some good advice by simply saying "turn off the console" and then later on the screen pops up that only appears when you fail the mission, I'm not very good at games so I genuinely thought I messed until I noticed instead of the standard "mission failed" it said "fisson mailed" so I thought it was broken, but then I realized the game was fucking with me and I love games that fuck with you! I just find it so interesting.

So there you have it my top spookiest moments in gaming for a very spooky month. Do you disagree? Well you should tell me about it in the comments. I know it's been a few moths that I haven't been posting or streaming that much and it's because I have been busy with going back to college and other things but I am going to try to be a lot more active now, if all goes to plan then I will be streaming some spooky Halloween games (good or bad) on the Monday which is actually Halloween.
