People often of the opinion that Dark Souls is a love/hate relationship. I actually agree with this however I feel like I started in one corner now I'm slowly making my way to the other. If you don't know, Dark Souls is a popular game series from, oh wait I need to phrase this differently. Dark Souls is a game series developed by From Software, a company with a difficult name for amateur writers who like talking about video games. The souls series spans across the three games and a whole genre inspired by it. As some background I started with Dark Souls one and have finished every game of the series (including the series's predecessor Demon's Souls and Bloodborne). But let's start getting back on topic; I purposely have avoided reviewing Dark Souls 3 simply because I was so unsure how I felt about it. Then the first DLC came around, and I was unimpressed but still unsure what I felt, however, now I finally know how I feel. I'm bored, I'm honestly so burnt out on the games now and honestly it sucks because I loved Dark Souls one, I loved Bloodborne from just the whole lovecraftian vibes (I mean if you read my short stories you'll see I'm a big Lovecraft fan). So let's get into what I thought of the DLC, I guess.
To start off I'll start by just saying: I didn't finish the DLC, hell, I only got to the first boss and I killed both the bosses just for another one to appear, then I died. This is the point that I realized I'm not having fun with the games anymore. But not just that; I don't feel compelled to try again or see what was after that.
Honestly, I think I was always disappointed by Dark Souls 3, it's not a bad game, not by any stretch it's a damn good game, I mean it's more Dark Souls, well yeah, kind of. After Dark Souls one I feel maybe From Software lost their way because after Dark Souls was successful with the marketing campaign of, "it's a hard game for HARD people" I feel like they focused too much on trying to make the games difficult, when I don't believe that's what Dark Souls is about. Not exclusively at least.
Another problem I have with Dark Souls 3 is: it honestly feels like just recycled ideas from the other games when what I wanted was a fresh take, plus I really dislike the idea of emptying a bosses health bar and then it just starting again with a different boss and if you die you just have to start again.
What do these point have to do with the Dark Souls 3 DLC? Everything! It is my *opinion* that the DLC does all these things. Is that necessarily bad? No. Do I like it? I don't know think for yourself. If I'm honest I haven't looked more into this DLC, why? Because at this point I'm just so burnt out on Dark Souls that I don't feel compelled to look into it more. I also have cravings for more narrative based games and the Dark Souls games don't deliver that themselves, VaatiVidya delivers that. I want to stress something: I DO NOT hate Dark Souls, in fact I still think it is a great game series, I just find myself getting bored and way too frustrated actually playing the games, I'll still end up watching streams and reading up on the story of the games; however, if Dark Souls 3 isn't From Software's last Souls it will certainly be my last, it's been fun Souls but adios amigo.
So what did you think of me shitting on a game with a semi-rabid fanbase? I think it was ok, about a 7/10.
Update: You may have noticed I have started putting up short stories, I have been doing this simply because I find it fun. They may not be the best things ever but I enjoy them so, yeah. I will be trying to increase the frequency of what I put out, however college may get in the way. In regards to the whole Final Fantasy thing I was doing, I have put that on hold because I haven't really had the time to play much of them and there are so many games that I really want to play; however I will continue to try and put as much out as I can.
Update Update: I just realized this is going up April 1st, just so you know I don't do April fools jokes. If I did it would probably be really obvious.
