I decided that I wanted to play the Arkham Series again because I wanted to play Arkham Knight, cause it was on sale. Plus I've never actually played it before. I'm not gonna do separate reviews for each game; they've been out long enough, everyone's already played them and I just don't really want to but, here is my view of the rest of the games: Arkham Asylum is kind of a classic, although it has definitely dated and feels outdated when compared with the rest of the series but is still enjoyable nonetheless- Arkham City was good but every time I play it I just seem to see more flaws and just dislike it that little bit more each time- Arkham Origins was dumb and shit and I didn't play it cause its still shit. But what about Arkham Knight?
Arkham Knight is pretty good. Which actually surprised me since I feel like I remember it getting panned when it came out, although, I believe that might have been because the PC port was a pint of hot arse pasta sauce, but its fine now (lil' bit late but still). The gameplay has the same groundwork but with a few new gadgets and some old ones and a few new enemy variations. The biggest addition to the gameplay is obviously the Batmobile/tank which is simultaneously mediocre and enjoyable, the actual tank combat is totally a gimmick that becomes boring half-way through the first fight that its introduced then it just keeps coming back; plus - the tank sneaking missions make absolutely no bloody sense. The actual driving of the batmobile is pretty fun, it's fast, it's destructive, it's completely unrealistic, it makes no sense when you're driving along at like 80mph and you run a gang member down and the game just says "oh well the Batmobile actually stuns enemies with electricity so that makes him going under the wheel irrelevant." or when you smash into an oncoming car at full speed and their car fucking explodes but don't worry the people inside are fine cause Batman doesn't kill people.
But how's the story? Predictable, if you know Batman stories. SPOILERS: the story is basically, Scarecrow thinks he's the main villain (he's not really though) and he's all like "I'm gonna shit up Gotham" so everyone pisses off out the city and Batman's like "I'm gonna have some fun" then suddenly some guy appears and is all "nah" but as soon as he spoke I knew it was the Red Hood (then I figured out how to change the costumes which confirmed what I already knew). There were a few moments where certain characters died which I wasn't actually expecting and really made it feel like the end of a trilogy, but then one didn't actually die and it was kinda dumb cause the game just said "ha ha you thought she was hallucinating, but it was actually you all along" then she just continues helping you like nothing happened. A good paper of the plot is how half way through the game didn't jump out and say "surprise! Joker is actually still alive, lol" no, instead Joker is still dead but he's in Batmans head and is trying to take him over because Batman is still infected with Jokers blood from Arkham City, like some sort of Joker STD, it doesn't really make sense and at one point he uses his eyes to show he's infected with Jokers blood but it didn't work when you're using the Flashpoint Batman skin cause it just makes his eyes red, plus it has two pistols on his sides and it kept making me laugh that Batman kept complaing that he doesn't kill. I think this game really does struggle with having way too much going on all at once, it's trying to tie up all the plots from previous games whilst also trying to make a new plot for this current game and it tries to put them into one big multicore-like thread and it just becomes a mess, I mean, what actually happened with the Red Hood? He just sort of changed sides then disappeared, then the actual ending was... Meh. So once you get so far in the game, it just says in plain text, do all the side quests then finish the game and I did. Well; except the |Riddler trophies. Because in Arkham Asylum I saw them and thought "oh, wow this is a neat idea that's pretty cool" and I got all of them. Then in Arkham City I said "oh, OK it makes sense for Riddler to be annoyed he was beaten by Batman" and then I got all of them. Then, in Arkham Knight I shouted "oh you cunt." and proceeded to get not a single Riddler trophy. Which made you get the punishment ending, where Batman goes home then blows up (that's it, that's all you get). And then you kicked back into the point before you finish it and the game says, no go back and do it again prick! So you know what I did? That's right! Same as everyone else, I went on YouTube and watched the proper ending and its the same but with a few more scenes and a narration from Jim Gordon, and then a sort of cliffhanger?
My point is that, I believe, Arkham Knight is fine. I'd maybe even go to say its pretty good, but ultimately it's too messy. There's so mu
ch time wasting missions to do, the villain stories are cool, but the missions to do with the Arkham Knight are dull. It's a weird one to reccomened cause if you're a fan of Batman and DC you'd probably like it but you'd also find it really predictable. So maybe it's for people who like Batman but don't read the comics?
