E3- Wrap up #LauraWasRight
E3- Finishing up.
Basically, I’ve tried to watch all of E3, I did manage to catch the Ubisoft conference but I’m too tired to do a full write up on it, but I couldn’t watch Sony or Bethesda because I have college and they were on at 2am and 5am respectively. I did watch the pc one but it was so boring I just drew runes from Bloodborne.
I also watched the Nintendo one but it was too short to really say anything about and my feelings on Nintendo should be pretty know, for those who don’t know I feel a strong disinterest for them, what I will say is that the Mario game looks kind of interesting but I loved the trailer music, especially in a world were all trailer music has to be the same Imagine Dragons rip-off, it was a nice touch; I’ll Nintendo a point for that. That Rabbits game by Ubisoft also looks alright, personally I just stick to X-Com- since that’s getting a new expansion, apparently not part of the season pass though- oh, and whilst I remember, #LauraWasRight. If you don’t know what I mean, Laura K Buzz is a games journalist who has leaked a bunch of stuff, including the Switch, and she’s very reliable and accurate, she leaked this game and gave a bunch of details, now proven to be factual, and people told her she was wrong. Because people are dicks who probably should apologize, anyway she was right.
But to get on with what I’m doing; basically I’m just gonna list and give a brief discussion about games I’m interested in, not all the games will be mentioned! This will be from all Bethesda, Ubisoft and Sony. So let’s go and watch Bethesda and Sony first since I haven’t already. Sadly this will not include any snarky tweets, I’m not that invested in making my work look good and more enjoyable.
PSA: Go watch what Devolver did, it was by far the best; most self aware part of E3, period.
Ubisoft
All in all the Ubisoft's conference was; alright. I don't honestly know how I'm gonna write much about this because there were a few games already talked about elsewhere, for example Assassin's Creed, and games that aren't really for me, South Park I don't really like the franchise as a whole. They showed the crew 2; in the most boring way possible, no music and just some guy talking like it was a PowerPoint to unenthusiastic teenagers, it didn't even have music.
The FMV game Transference looks really trippy and absolutely strange, I'm into it. Though, we didn't really get any sort of info about it; it kinda just went 'look Elijah Wood, we have that Lord of the Rings guy in our game and it's super strange.' I'm intrigued- I'll definitely check it out later on- I just hope we get more info soon.
Skull & Bones looks like a very interesting game, I really like the idea of having a crew and having other crews that want to kill your crew because pirates. That being said I'm not too into multiplayer so I'm interested to see what (or if) the single player is. Also, the crew better sing shanties; many many shanties. And there better be an actual Kracken.
There's a new Just Dance. Sub Zero was dancing. That's all I got.
South Park got a mobile game, it's a collectible card game; I think it's a Gacha too I think. Because of course they want to squeeze more money out of the franchise in any possible way they can.
They showed gameplay which, just looked like Far Cry 5. What I don't get is: There is a crazy cult taking over this part of America and you have to rise up and defeat them, my question is; why don't the cop of FBI or whatever just come in? I'd be interested to see if the game acknowledges this and makes a piss-poor excuse. You can run people over with a harvester; Farming Simulator: Gone South.
Ubisoft ended the show with, what I think was the biggest surprise, I don't want to say it was a big announcement because it's not the first time this game has been announced, plus, Ubisoft are liars and this is no guarantee the game will ever come or even be good. Plus, the only reason it was a surprise was because Ubisoft lied and said it wouldn't be there and people believed them. As for the actual game goes; I'm into it, I didn't get very far in the first one but it seemed cool.
Oh, there was not even a single peep about For Honor. HA H A H A.
Sony
In my opinion Sony's conference started strong and then it got to the parts that just weren't for me. They started with Uncharted, a game I'm not a fan of this game really, I liked the live music though; it fit with the game, shame the trailer audio didn't work for two trailers. For the most part the show was less of a show and more of the trailers before a film. Their longest amount of footage was Days Gone. It looked like a zombie game, I'm not going to even discuss the fake zombies dangling on stage. I really wish zombie games would be at least a little different or not anything; to me it just looks like a boring old open world with boring over done zombies. I would also like to point how the main character has literally no issue with just murdering people who are just trying to survive; I wonder if that will be in the narrative, it won't but you never know.
They then showed Horizon Zero Dawn DLC Frozen Wilds. I've literally just started Horizon and it's pretty damn great so I am definitely looking forward to seeing this.
They had a really good announcement: Monster Hunter World. I have never actually played a Monster Hunter so I am super interested to see what these games are like. I have been interested in playing the games for a while but never had the chance so maybe I finally will. I'm intrigued from what I saw in the trailer.
They then showed a game I never finished, (there are a lot of games I never finished) Shadow of the Colossus re-remaster. I got half way through it on PS3 so I probably won't even get it on the PS4.
They showed loads of VR games. I am glad VR hasn't just died, yet, but I don't have one so I'm not too interested. I feel like a majority of people probably won't have VR- whether it's because of the price or space issues or even disabilities- so, in my mind spending so long on VR isn't the best, but you don't want it to die like the Vita (still annoyed about that), I don't know. They talked about Skyrim, again, but in VR! My biggest concerns are: How do you move around because the trailer seemed to show you moving freely and controlling the hands with the move controllers and from what I know most other VR games have set points you teleport to, to avoid the player ejecting the lining of their stomach. My other concern is do people have to buy Skyrim yet again? Oh, then Final Fantasy XV Fishing VR; By far the part I hated most about Final Fantasy XV. Does that make me sound like I dislike Final Fantasy XV? I didn't, I just hate the fishing.
There's other games, Detroit, God of War, Spiderman and Destiny 2; non of which I have anything to really say about, I'm just not interested. Overall; I thought it started quite strong then tailed off and I lost interest at the VR point. Just my opinions of course, like all my work.
Bethesda
This was by far the weakest Bethesda conference I've seen. The games they showed just didn't grab me, I appreciate the theme they did but Bethesda land was really getting on my nerves and the chiptune effect they put on everything, was just grinding and distracting.
They talked about VR; Doom, Fallout 4. My questions from before apply here too.
They did the obligatory streamer/Youtuber reaction to Elder Scrolls Online, I don't like MMOs so this was not for me at all.
They then did something utterly stupid. Seriously it was absolutely moronic. Basically, if you remember a few years ago Bethesda tried to make paid mods for Skyrim and it backfired, so they pulled it, they went completely back on their word and scrapped the idea. They brought it back in the conference with the creation club. It works by fans making mods and Bethesda moderating them, from what I understand at least, then people buy credits with money to buy the mods. Really, it's just fan made DLC, what really is the worst is that they're trying to disguise this as something good and it's for the fans, it isn't, it's just a way to make money and put in less effort. For years people have accused Bethesda of stealing things from mods and, to me, this seems like the ultimate offence.
They then showed Skyrim on Switch which looks like the original. It's got Zelda items though, through an Amiibo, or just download free mods for the exact same experience.
There was also Elder Scrolls Legends a game I completely forgot existed.
Frankly at this point I just started skipping through, Bethesda land was pissing me right off and I was just so bored. Bethesdaland is like Delvolver's conference if it wasn't self aware and took itself seriously.
Dishonored 3 was announced. I loved Dishonored 1, Dishonored 2 was enjoyable. I am so torn on Dishonored 3, on one side I feel like it's going to be a downgrade from the second, but I am also interested in the Outsiders' story.
Wolfenstein was completely batshit, there was a guy dropping acid as a pregnant lady was stabbing a dead guy. That's all I'm going to say about it.
All in all, I wasn’t that into Bethesda's conference, nothing really grabbed me; so, I didn't really enjoy it. Anyway, E3 was pretty alright, for the first E3 I've actually watched all the way through, it was meh, I really can't say anything more than it was alright. I actually haven't anything else to say here really.
Who won then? Devolver, obviously.
